Notabene3

Just a quick post to mention a new application I’ve been working on. I started it back in the 1990s (!)  as a personal aid to help me learn to read music (I was studying for violin grade exams) and the concept helped me immensely.

I upgraded it over the years and now it’s reached its final incarnation. It asks you a “question note”, and then listens to what you play (audio or MIDI) and tells you whether you played the correct note. It also lets you practise scales, key signatures, and ear training, among other practise modes.

It also helps you if you don’t want to read music, just learn scales (e.g. on guitar or bass):

It’s available now (there’s a free version, which is limited in some ways) or a licenced version. Like most people, I hate the idea of having to subscribe for software. This is a one-off, lifetime cost with always-free updates.
